There is a lot of advice on restful sleep. The same tips do not work for everyone, but here are a variety of approaches we find effective in helping us to sleep better and more consistently:

• Get into a routine – go to bed at the same time each night and try not to stay up too late - your most restful periods of sleep occur before midnight
• Exercise – its good for you and will help you fall asleep and stay asleep
• Practice Yoga – we’ve found Yoga has a dramatic impact on the soundness of our sleep. Research shows Yoga can improve your sleep because of the balancing effect it has on the nervous system and brain
• Limit Eating Before Bedtime- eat at least 2 hours before going to sleep. This will also help you digest, limit weight gain and sleep better
• Limit Heavy Drinking – try and limit your alcohol intake as it may help you fall asleep but does not support restorative sleep.
• Take a Hot Bath or Shower – a decrease in body temperature after a hot bath or shower triggers sleep centers in your brain
• Sip Herbal Tea Before Bedtime - Herbal teas (no caffeine) like chamomile have been used for centuries as a natural sleep aid
